RUG Little League Summer Ball takes place from July 7 to August 7 with a weeknight, game-only format (no weekends, no practices). Teams play ten (10) games, usually on Monday-Thursday, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
Summer Ball is a relaxed, non-competitive, no-pressure type of season. The emphasis should not be on winning but rather on skill development, teamwork, and FUN!
(Softball games are played ‘sandlot’ style. Teams are formed on the field each session based on the number of players who are there – each week different teams can form giving everyone a chance to play different positions and to meet new friends.)
As a bonus, the program is open to both RUG and non-RUG players. There are no resident or school requirements so you can recruit friends no matter where they live or go to school! (Please ignore the questions about residence or school eligibility during the registration process - they are standard Little League questions and cannot be removed for Summer Ball.)
Further, Summer Ball provides the opportunity for players to continue playing at the same level as in the spring season, or move up to the next level if they intend to move up next year. Please see the table below for recommended Summer Ball placement based on age and talent. Please contact

Note: If your player's birthdate is not within the eligible birthdate range for a division they want to play in, that division will not appear as an option in registration. If that's the case, please contact the Registrar at

RUG partners with other Little Leagues in north Seattle and Shoreline to field teams for games. Games may take place on RUG fields or in other nearby neighborhoods, including Northeast Seattle, North Central, Ballard, Northwest, Queen Anne, Shoreline, and others. Roster sizes are typically larger than spring teams to accommodate kids taking time off for summer vacations, camps, etc.
RUG is still 100% run by volunteers! The Summer League can't happen without parents and other volunteers stepping in as coaches and umpires. Summer coaching is simply making a lineup, rotating subs so all kids get to play evenly, and supervising the dugout. Parent Umpires can work from behind the plate or behind the mound.
The registration fee for all Summer Ball divisions is $75.00. Scholarships are available. All players receive a jersey but provide their own pants. If your player still has their hat from the spring season, they should wear that. Players who are new to RUG will receive a new hat.
