2021 Tee Ball Division (Ages 4-6)

Description:

Your child's first entry into the awesome world of baseball and softball! Tee ball is a non-competitive, developmental league, where the focus is introducing the game to pre-schoolers and kindergartners. It's all about having fun! Players hit off of a tee and teams bat a continuous order so that every player bats and runs the bases each inning. Kids rotate between defensive positions so that every child experiences playing each position. Games are typically up to 3 innings and will start the week of 4/20/2020.

 

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a drop-off program.  Parents and/or older sibling are expected to help during games and at practices, especially at this level. Tee ball can be like herding cats, and your team manager/coaches will appreciate any help they can get!

Ages:

Mostly 5 and 6 year-olds, typically in his/her final year of preschool or in kindergarten. 7-year-olds are also welcome if he/she has not played in a baseball league before, or is not ready to move to Coach Pitch. 4-year-olds are also welcome if the child is physically ready and mature enough to play a team sport.

 

Eligible birthday ranges are from 9/1/2014 to 8/31/2017. If your childs birthday is outside of this date range, please contact the RUG registrar at registrar@rugll.org for help registering your child.

Practices:

1 - 2 per week from mid-March until games begin in mid-April. Practices are scheduled by the coach based on field availability. Expect two practices a week: one weekday at 5pm or 5:30pm and one on Saturday.

Game Schedule:

12 game season with 1-2 games/week: usually 1 weeknight (6pm) and 1 Saturday (start times range from 9am to 4pm). Pending scheduling and field availability, season starts the week of April 19th, and will run for 7 weeks, likely ending by June 5th or June 12th. 

 

Expect schedule to be released in late March or early April.

Locations:

Games are mostly played at Maple Leaf Reservoir Park Fields, Ravenna Park Field, and John Rogers Elementary.

Uniforms:

Full uniforms provided including jersey, pants, socks and cap. At the end of the season, players keep cap, jersey & socks, but return the pants. Players need to provide their own baseball mitt and shoes. Cleats are optional.

Field Size:

60' between bases.

Team Makeup:

8 - 10 boys and girls, mixed. Kids are grouped onto teams by school, neighborhood, and carpool requests.  If you would like your son or daughter to be placed on a team with a specific coach and/or with another child, please specify this in your registration. Better yet, recruit a group of kids from school or your neighborhood to play together on the same team.

2021 A Baseball / Coach Pitch (Ages 6-8)

Description:

Coach pitch baseball is a development league and introduces competition and begins to enforce outs as the season goes on. Scores is not officially kept.

 

Coach or other parent pitches to own team, or uses a pitching machine. Teams bat a continuous order so that every player bats each inning. Games are typically 2-4 inning, time permitting. Later in the season, teams that are up for it play 3-outs per inning, which may allow for more innings.

Ages:

7 and 8 year-olds, typically in 1st or 2nd grade, and some kindergartners (6 year-olds) as well.

 

Eligible birthday ranges are from 9/1/2012 to 8/31/2015. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range, please contact the RUG registrar at registrar@rugll.org for help registering your child. 

Practices:

2021 AA Baseball / 89ers (Ages 8-9)

Description:

Get ready for real baseball! The AA division is the first player pitch division and umpires record balls, strikes, and outs. Each team gets the standard 3-outs per inning, and games may last up to 6 innings, but often end after 3-4 because of time. 

 

RUGLL encourages kids to be hitters, and does not play with walks. If a batter receives 4 balls, a coach or parent from the same team will pitch until the batter gets a hit or strikes out (pitching machine may also be used). Scores and standings are recorded on the league website with playoffs at the end of the season.

 

In order to create balanced teams, eligible players must attend a player assessment session to be evaluated for play at this level. For AA Baseball players, this year’s session will be held on either Sunday, February 21st between 1pm and 5pm, or on Saturday, February 27th between 10am and 5pm.  Time and location information will be sent out as soon as we have the details confirmed.

Ages:

8 and 9 year-olds, typically in 2nd or 3rd grade.

If you have a specific request for your son or daughter to be placed on a team with another child for carpool or other reasons, please specify this in your registration. We will do our best to accommodate, but this may be difficult based on rosters being drafted.

2021 AAA Baseball / Minors (Ages 10-11)

Description:

The Minors division is both instructional and competitive with more emphasis on instructional than competition during the regular season. The goal is to prepare players for advancement to the Majors division. Scores and standings are recorded on the league website with playoffs at the end of the season.

 

In order to create balanced teams, eligible players must attend a player assessment session to be evaluated for play at this level. For AAA Baseball players, this year’s session will be held on either Sunday, February 21st between 1pm and 5pm, or on Saturday, February 27th between 10am and 5pm.  Time and location information will be sent out as soon as we have the details confirmed.

Ages:

10 and 11 year-olds, typically in 4th or 5th grade. There may be an option for 9 year-olds to play at this level if they have played at least one year of AA Baseball and are recommended for player assessment at the AAA level by his or her AA Player Agent.

2021 Majors Baseball (Ages 11-12)

Description:

The Majors division is both instructional and competitive with more emphasis on the competitive aspects of the game than at the Minors division. Managers focus on fielding a competitive team while also providing the players with a fun learning experience. Players should focus on refining their baseball skills with a strong emphasis on consistency. Often the difference between an average player and a good player is the ability to consistently execute the required skills.

 

Scores and standings are recorded on the league website with playoffs at the end of the season.

 

In order to create balanced teams, eligible players must attend a player assessment session to be evaluated for play at this level. For Majors Baseball players, this year’s session will be held on either Sunday, February 21st between 1pm and 5pm, or on Saturday, February 27th between 10am and 5pm.  Time and location information will be sent out as soon as we have the details confirmed.

Ages:

11 and 12 year-olds, typically in 5th or 6th grade. All 12 year-olds will be selected to play in the Majors division unless a safety issue exists as determined by the Player Agent or League President. There may be an option for 10 year-olds to play at this level if they have played at least one year in the AAA division and are recommended for player assessment at the Majors level by his or her AAA Player Agent.

2021 Intermediates Baseball (Age 13)

Description:

The Intermediates division is a bridge between little league baseball and big diamond baseball. Intermediates baseball is played on diamonds with 70' bases and a 50' pitching rubber, and is competitive baseball between North Seattle leagues. Depending on registration numbers, RUG Little League may combine with another league like Northwest Seattle Little League, rather than field its own team. All players are evaluated for appropriate placement at this level and registered players will be notified of their team placement in February. Scores and standings are recorded on the league website with playoffs at the end of the season.

Ages:

13 year-olds, typically in 7th grade.

2021 Seniors Baseball (Ages 15-16)

Description:

Competitive baseball between Seattle leagues. Depending on registration numbers, RUG Little League may combine with other District 8 players rather than field its own team. 16 - 20 game season with doubleheaders on Sundays, and possibly some weekday or Saturday games. Due to modified high school schedules due to COVID, in 2021 games will be played from mid-March through the end of April, before the high school school baseball season starts. Players not playing high school ball will have the opportunity to continue playing games through May and June. More games and/or a post-season tournmanent are planned for late June or July, after the high school season is over.

 

Expect schedule to be released the first week of March.

Locations:

Games are played at North Seattle and suburban fields.

Uniforms:

2021 A Softball / 78ers / Coach Pitch (Ages 6-8)

Description:

The single-A / 78ers division is a non-competitive introduction to girl’s softball. It is coach or machine-pitched with no scoring or standings. Each girl will bat every inning, play an equal amount, and rotate positions as appropriate.

Ages:

7 and 8 year-olds, and some 6 year-olds. Girls must be at least 6 years old as of 12/31/2020.

 

Eligible birthday ranges are from 1/1/2012 to 12/31/2014. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range, please contact the RUG registrar at registrar@rugll.org for help registering your child. 

Practices:

2 per week from early March until games begin in late March. Practices are scheduled by the coach based on field availability. Expect one weekday practice at 5pm or 5:30pm and one on Saturday, or two weekdays. While it is up to the individual teams, practices typically end once the regular season games begin.

Game Schedule:

10 - 12 game season with 1-2 games/week. Games are usually on Saturdays (start times range from 9am to 4pm), and occassionally on Tuesdays. Pending scheduling and field availability, season starts on March 28th, and runs until June 6th. Each game typically lasts 1.5 hours.

 

Expect schedule to be released in early March.

Locations:

Games are played at North Seattle fields.

Uniforms:

Full uniforms provided including jersey, pants, socks, and visor. At the end of the season, players keep visor, jersey & socks, but return the pants. Players need to provide their own baseball mitt and shoes/cleats.

Girls must be 11 or 12 as of 12/31/2020. All 12 year-olds will be selected to play in the Majors division unless a safety issue exists as determined by the Player Agent or League President. There may be an option for 10 year-olds to play at this level if they have played at least one year in the AAA division and are recommended for player assessment at the Majors level by her AAA Player Agent.

 

Eligible birthday ranges are from 1/1/2008 to 12/31/2009. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range, please contact the RUG registrar at registrar@rugll.org for help registering your child. 

Practices:

2-3 per week from early March until games begin in late March. Practices are scheduled by the coach based on field availability. Expect 1-2 weekday practice at 5pm or 5:30pm and one on Saturday. While it is up to the individual teams, practices typically end once the regular season games begin.

Game Schedule:

14 - 16 game season with 2-3 games/week: usually on Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm, and Saturdays (start times range from 9am to 4pm). Pending scheduling and field availability, season starts on March 28th, and will run for 8 weeks, likely ending by June 6th. Each game is limited to 2 hours, or 6 innings.

 

Expect schedule to be released in mid March.

Locations:

Games are played at North Seattle fields.

Uniforms:

Full uniforms provided including jersey, pants, belt, socks and visor. At the end of the season, players keep visor, socks, and pants, but return the jersey. Players need to provide their own baseball mitt and shoes/cleats.

Field Size:

60’ between bases with 40’ to the pitcher’s mound from home plate.

Team Makeup:

12 - 14, girls only. Teams are formed through a draft process. New players to the league are evaluated for appropriate placement and competitiveness. RUGLL softball players at the Majors level will mostly likely combine with Northeast Seattle Little League teams.

Competitive softball between North Seattle leagues. While baseball goes to a 90' diamond, softball remains on a 60' diamond making fast-pitch softball at this level one of the most exciting games available.

 

Scores and standings are recorded on the league website. The season culminates in a season-ending tournament followed by All-Star play for those girls who are nominated.

 

Due to lower enrollment numbers in past years, its is likely that players registered through RUGLL will be combined with a neighboring little league. However, you should still register with RUGLL if you live within the RUGLL boundary.

Ages:

13 and 14 year-olds. Girls must be 13 or 14 as of 12/31/2020.

The Challenger division is a program for developmentallly and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. Playing with the same equipment and on the same fields as other Little League players, participants will have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered, and earning awards for their achievements.

 

Challenger games may be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three.

Ages:

Eligibible ages are from 4 to 18.

 

Eligible birthday ranges are from 9/1/2002 to 8/31/2017. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range and you wish to register for this division, please contact the RUGLL registrar at registrar@rugll.org for help registering your child. 

Practices:

1-2 per week in April, starting the week of April 12th. Practices typically held on Tuesday or Wednesday and/or Saturday.

Game Schedule:
